Social Construction Theory

As we have been discussing social construction of identity and thinking about the ways society (and our culture) tends to assign our identities, I thought it would be helpful to have these definitions handy. These definitions come, of course, from the textbook, Social Problems: Continuity and Change. Of course, these are not the only theories associated with the ways culture shapes us.

As we continue to discuss Social Problems as the focus of our developing research questions, and as an aid to your own inquiries, I will add to the list of theorists whose interrogation of this phenomenon help us to understand our own roles in the evolving culture we inhabit.
